EMDR is a type of therapy developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 80’s.
EMDR, simply put, helps to reprocess memories which are creating distress, triggering, anxiety or depression or behavioural issues, relationship challenges and beliefs about yourself.
About EMDR
EMDR requires specific training in order to utilise this form of therapy with clients.
EMDR is best to administer in regular weekly or fortnightly sessions if possible. Some sessions may need to be longer than usual - 90 mins may be best.
After EMDR you may feel tired and need rest. Sometimes further processing occurs for up to 48 hours post sessions. It is best to not return to work directly after and consider when you book appointments. Please consider appropriate transport after your appointments.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a recommended treatment for PTSD - both complex and acute trauma as well as other mental health concerns
EMDR Cost
$180 for a 50 minute session $300 for a 90min session.
You may need a mix of 50 minute and 90min sessions. You will likely need a minimum of 4 sessions.
If you are a sensitive claims client, your sessions are covered by ACC.
